THE FRANKINCENSE SELECTION

Frankincense shaped the history of Oman, our Land, and flows in the veins and shines in the spirits of Omani people today as it did thousands of years ago.

Frankincense is not a mere ingredient for us. It shaped the history of our Land, hold tight the ground of our mountains, rhythms the lives of the people dedicated to collecting it for generations past and to come. Frankincense is the not only the backbone of all our perfumes, it flows in the veins and shines in the spirit of the Omani people; alive and noble today as it was thousands of years ago – our common origin.

Frankincense harvest in Oman is still done as it was in the days of old. Twice a year, harvesters gather in the mountains with their Manqaf in hand, reenacting the gestures done and taught by their elders before them. As the first hit blows – the Alama – Frankincense trees start secreting a lymph-like white resin which will harden over weeks. Harvesters will then gather again, hit the bark again, let the resin harden again until the first golden tears of frankincense appear. Frankincense harvest is very much a calling not to exploit nature but to take what it would willingly give despite the hardships of the weather, the altitude and of the deed itself. Our fragrances perpetuate this thousand-year-old tradition.
