Story

Born in the Sultanate of Oman, Amouage is an international luxury fragrance House renowned for creating some of the most finely crafted perfumes in the world . Yet, the story of Amouage cannot be unraveled without delving into the reason for its birth in 1983.

Over a decade after the start of its Renaissance in 1970, Oman was fast becoming a land of peace, friendship and hospitality. As such, the House’s founder, Sayyid Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi had gone to the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said with a proposition to create a brand that would introduce Oman’s fragrance heritage to the world. A brand that will speak of the country’s treasures, the scentful rock rose from Al Hajar mountains, the high-grade frankincense from Dhofar and the valuable ambergris from the Sea of Oman. A brand that will bring to life the Sultanate’s ancient legacy on the Silk Route, bridging civilizations of Arabia, East Africa, and those to the distant East and West. A brand that will become His Majesty’s gift to the world, and therein ‘The Gift of Kings’ was born.

Floral Masterpiece

Each gift is housed in specially curated boxes enveloped in floral masterpieces from the 19th century Qajar Dynasty, courtesy of the British Museum. Qajar art refers to the art, architecture, and art-forms of the Qajar dynasty of the late Persian Empire, which lasted from 1781 to 1925 in Iran (Persia).

The boom in artistic expression that occurred during the Qajar era was the fortunate side effect of the period of relative peace that accompanied the rule of Agha Muhammad Khan and his descendants. With his ascension, the bloody turmoil that had been the 18th century in Persia came to a close, and made it possible for the peacetime arts to again flourish.
